An early follower of the school of Liu Shu Kwon, Li Wai On possesses the skill of traditional Chinese ink painter reflected n much of his early work which were the masterful representational landscapes that are the tradition of the great Chinese painters. But like Liu Shu Kwon, Wai On’s evolved stylistically. Not over night, but as a spiritual and academic evolution covering years. The evolution of his style is often accompanied by the poems and thoughts that evoke the spirit of the literati style and appear spontaneously in much of his work. Even for those not literate in Chinese, the character and strength of the calligraphy, combined with the power and skill in his brushwork impart an understanding of the journey Li Wai On shares with us.
